AATE brings together a network of Portuguese players to replicate, demonstrate, and scale energy transition solutions, combining technical expertise with strong go-to-market capabilities to accelerate innovation uptake and sustainable business growth.
The Alliance for the Energy Transition (AATE) is a Portuguese innovation platform that brings together a national network of companies, research centers, universities, startups, and public entities to accelerate the energy transition through innovation, collaboration, and internationalization.
AATE supports the full innovation lifecycle from idea to market, through three strategic action pathways:
1. Make it: Promoting collaborative R&D, real-environment testing via Living Labs and Testbeds, circular economy integration, talent development, and reindustrialization in the energy sector.
2. Grow it: Facilitating access to public and private funding, business acceleration, regulatory advocacy, and matchmaking between startups, corporates, and investors at national and European levels.
3. Show it: Enhancing international visibility through branding (“Made in Portugal Energy”), global missions, green economic diplomacy, market intelligence, and promotion of successful innovation cases.
With strong expertise in coordinating multi-stakeholder projects, supporting go-to-market strategies, and enabling technology replication and scale-up, AATE is an ideal partner for European initiatives aligned with climate and energy goals.

Brief description of my Organisation
The Alliance for the Energy Transition (AATE) is a Portuguese non-profit association established in 2022, comprising approximately 40 associates representing a broad spectrum of the energy sector. Its members span key domains including smart grids, circular economy, IoT and digital technologies, sustainable and electric mobility, maritime engineering, power distribution, renewables, and green gases.
AATE currently coordinates a large-scale collaborative initiative involving over 80 Portuguese partners, supported by a budget exceeding €250 million. This project aims to develop and bring to market more than 60 innovative energy-related products and services by June 2026.
Acting as a strategic enabler, AATE fosters the integration of R&D, market deployment, and investment facilitation to accelerate Portugal’s energy transition. It catalyzes the transformation of emerging technologies into commercially viable solutions, enhancing the competitiveness of national value chains. The association provides its members with targeted matchmaking, ecosystem networking, access to diverse funding mechanisms, and support for internationalization efforts.
With a focus on advancing renewable energy integration, smart grid modernization, circular economy principles, digital transformation, and novel business models, AATE plays a pivotal role in positioning Portugal as a frontrunner in the sustainable and digital energy landscape.
