ECO-INNOVATION, MEASURING OF SYSTEM’S SUSTAINABILITY AND MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT
IPN LED&MAT has a dynamically Eco-innovation team specialized in supporting companies to measure, understand and manage the environmental impact of their products, services, and operations. Through the most up-to-date tools, namely by applying globally recognized life cycle assessment methods (e.g. the United Nations supported IPCC method for Carbon Footprint calculation, the PEF method for product environmental footprint determination proposed by the European Commission, or the international standards ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and ISO 14067) and by modelling complex industrial systems using Simapro software, IPN work is focused on sustainability analysis and reporting (integrating LCA, S-LCA, CFP, PEF, ESG) towards design circular, net-zero and positive impact solutions. IPN LED&MAT has been leading the development of products and systems incorporating innovative recycling and reuse technologies to attain high sustainable patterns (e.g. ECOSORV e SHELLUTIONPLUS projects) as well as has been working in the improvement of products and technologies for sectors as the plastic and packaging (BiFibRe and MG BOTTLES projects, part of the Sustainable Plastics Agenda of Portugal's recovery and resilience plan) and has coordinated/participated in different FP7 and H2020 projects (e.g. POWERSKIN+, GELCLAD, VIP4ALL, ICECLAY).
