Faculty is a leading applied AI provider for the energy transition, deploying cutting edge AI software with a high density of STEM PhD talent. Driving asset performance, process efficiency and energy system transition (SGN, NPg, Network Rail, NG-ESO)
As Europe’s leading applied AI firm, we deploy cutting edge AI software, and use it to help the most important organisations to transform their operations with AI. We hold a unique place in the AI talent ecosystem with a high density of STEM PhD talent within our teams, and 10% of the UK science and math PhD population apply for our fellowship programme.
The Faculty Energy Transition & Environment practice helps the energy sector transition to a decarbonised future in a number of ways:
- Asset Performance: Using AI to enhance the performance of the asset base and increase operating margins
- Process Efficiency: Employing ML and generative AI to optimise organisational processes and improve customer experience
- Energy System Transition: Working in partnership with organisations to deliver the energy/electricity system of the future
- Environmental & Biodiversity Monitoring: Applying ML techniques to scale monitoring solutions for accurate biodiversity mapping
- Capability Building: Helping companies across the energy sector develop capabilities through co-development and training, along with shared IP and coding
Example use cases include:
- Intelligent gas grid: anomaly detection for automated pressure management for a UK gas network operator (SGN)
- Effective electricity network planning: AI forecasting solutions to predict load (KW) at half hourly intervals to enable procurement of flexibility by a UK DNO (NPg)
- Vessel-based hydrogen generation: smart routing algorithm to optimise the vessel’s route to maintain the highest possible hydrogen production rates (DRIFT)
- Optimised railway maintenance: lineside vegetation encroachment tool using geospatial analytics including video footage, 3D reconstruction and distance measurements (Network Rail)
- AI Centre of Excellence: strategic planning and a number of use cases to enable smart grid operations (National Grid ESO)
