Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL), a UK-based developer and operator of deep geothermal power projects.
Geothermal Engineering Ltd. (GEL) was established in 2008 to develop geothermal resources, for low carbon electricity, heating, and cooling. GEL brings together a cohesive mix of specialist geologists, engineers, and community engagement personnel, focused on delivering sustainable power and heat to the benefit of both local and global communities.
GEL's flagship project is the United Downs Geothermal project in Cornwall, which is due to complete in Q4 2024 and produce the UK’s first geothermal power. Two deep, directional wells have successfully been drilled into the underlying granite; the production well to a measured depth of 5,275m and the injection well to 2,393m. Both wells have intersected the target Porthtowan Fault Zone located approximately 800m to the west of the site. Reservoir testing was completed in 2021 and power plant construction is set to begin in late 2023.
GEL acts primarily as a developer and operator of geothermal projects. However, GEL also offers consultancy services to entities around the world that are considering using geothermal resources for heating, cooling, power generation or critical raw material extraction. These services include; Financial and Technical Due Diligence, Feasibility Studies, Site Scoping and Selection, Planning and Permitting, Seismic Hazard Assessment, Geothermal Well Design, Equipment Tendering & Drilling Management, Reservoir Modelling, Power Plant and Infrastructure Planning, Direct Lithium Extraction Project Management, and Community Engagement & Education Programme Management.
