AI-assisted structural diagnostics for low-carbon renovation and energy-ready buildings
The objective is to develop and validate an AI-assisted, non-invasive structural and material diagnostic solution to support low-carbon renovation, energy upgrades and smarter housing/construction decisions for concrete buildings and infrastructure.
Energy-transition projects, including photovoltaic integration, deep renovation, adaptive reuse and circular construction, are often delayed because asset owners do not know early enough whether a structure is suitable, whether reinforcement is needed, or what technical risks and renovation budget should be anticipated. Traditional investigations can be slow, invasive and fragmented, creating uncertainty before investment decisions.
STRUCMEDICA proposes to combine non-destructive testing, structural assessment, sensor or inspection data, carbonation/CO2 uptake indicators and AI-assisted analysis to provide faster, decision-oriented insights on the condition, risks, durability and renovation readiness of concrete assets. This would help cities, housing operators, engineering firms and energy-transition actors assess readiness for renovation, PV/energy upgrades, adaptive reuse, material reuse or maintenance planning.
The project would also explore low-carbon concrete, circular construction and the measurement or interpretation of CO2 uptake/carbonation in concrete structures. By linking structural condition, carbonation depth, durability indicators and potential carbon storage information, STRUCMEDICA could support better lifecycle assessment, reuse decisions and low-carbon renovation strategies.
Within EUROGIA2030, the project would contribute to low-carbon technologies, smart cities, smarter housing and construction, digitalisation and asset management. We are looking to build a transnational consortium to validate the solution on real use cases, integrate structural/material indicators into renovation or energy planning workflows, and demonstrate impact on cost, time, safety, carbon performance and sustainability.

Brief description of my Organisation
STRUCMEDICA is a civil engineering deeptech startup developing AI-assisted, non-invasive structural diagnostic solutions for existing concrete buildings and infrastructure. Our approach combines non-destructive testing, structural assessment, data analysis and engineering interpretation to help asset owners, engineering firms and public authorities make faster and clearer decisions before renovation, adaptive reuse, energy upgrades, PV integration or maintenance planning.
