Artificial Intelligence Based Smart Meter – Grid and Communication Technologies for Critical Infrastructures (AI-SMeCoT)
Sustainable urbanization and modern city life involves providing critical infrastructure services such as electricity, telecommunications, water, gas, and roads to support the basic livelihood of the citizens and businesses. Due to increasing urban population density in the world, sustainable infrastructure services have become indispensable means of effective management of work dissemination of smart cities. As the cities get smarter, the utility companies start to leverage smart meters where remote management of the meters allows companies start to where remote management of the meters allows companies to reduce the personnel and service vehicles on the field. The more frequent and reliable data collection is achived telecomunication infrastructure.
We can claim that continuous and uninterrupted provision of services in a Smart City requires a robustly designed communication infrastructure. On the other hand, it is known that an IoT (Internet of Things) based communication network should be constructed to provide reliable two-way communication between the smart assets of the city service like meters, sensors and equipment etc.
The aim of this project is to determine applying AI solution to finding way for conserve energy. In Europe, there are many different utility companies delivering services using a different infrastructure, some of which are smart some not so much. The need for energy also grows exponentially, where in metropolitan cities such as Istanbul; i.e. gas and water within the scope of smart city. In this context, all the metering systems will be equipped with the appropriate assets and the computational interfaces for remote reading and control of the smart meters. Accordingly, current communication technologies will be compared in terms of cost, cyber-security, speed, capacity and service life criteria in a pilot application. The results will be discussed to construct the final communication infrastructure of Istanbul gas and water infrastructure.
