Flexible IoT System for Real-Time Electricity Monitoring, Predictive Analytics, and Demand Response in Multi-Tenant Buildings
Across Europe, many residential and public buildings—especially multi-tenant complexes—still depend on conventional electricity meters without communication capabilities. This prevents energy service providers, building owners, and tenants from accessing real-time consumption data, limiting energy efficiency, anomaly detection, and participation in flexibility markets. Retrofitting these legacy infrastructures with smart meters is costly and disruptive, delaying digitalization.
The project will deliver a retrofit-ready IoT metering device for both single-phase and three-phase systems, with embedded edge computing for real-time data processing. Combined with an open-source integration layer, the solution guarantees full data sovereignty while enabling seamless interoperability with third-party platforms.
The project will also develop an advanced analytics toolkit for forecasting, anomaly detection, digital twin modeling, load optimization, and predictive maintenance. Together, these innovations empower both human and automated decision-making, enabling regulatory compliance, fault prevention, and integration into demand-response programs.
Pilot deployments will validate the system in real residential and public buildings, demonstrating performance, energy efficiency impact, and user acceptance. By lowering retrofit costs and ensuring interoperability, the project accelerates the digitalization of Europe’s building stock, supports renewable integration, and strengthens grid resilience.
