The current global challenges related to carbon dioxide emissions and climate change give rise to the concept of green building. Because it is known that 40% of the world's raw material is used in the construction sector and 50% of the CO2 released into the atmosphere comes from the building materials. The use of bio-based resources, which are sustainable, as well as reduce carbon and energy emissions and consume less energy for the functioning of buildings instead of traditional building materials.
Wood panels and particularly MDF and insulation fibreboards are major components in construction and indoor living environment (buildings, furniture), representing a continuously growing market in the EU and worldwide. In this project our main goal is to provide viable alternatives in order to replace more elements in a building with more wood. The objectives are as follows: Design of sustainable insulation panel products from bio-based resins – bio-economy, Reduce entire consumption of raw materials (lightweight construction), reduce energy consumption, avoidance of residual materials in production besides the recyclability of the products, reduce CO2 emissions and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It is known that 1m3 wood captures 0,9 tonnes of CO₂ . Approximately 5m3 wood based panel products are used in an apartment that gives us the number of capturing at least 36 tones CO2 in a 4 floor building.
