Objective of my Project Idea

This project aims to ensure the structural integrity of Power Cable Risers (PCRs) used in Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FWTs), which face extreme dynamic loads from wind, waves, and turbine motion. The goal is to develop and validate a high-fidelity, multi-scale numerical model that captures PCR behaviour under such conditions and extends to predicting durability and failure using fracture mechanics principles.

The approach combines advanced finite element analysis with fluid dynamics simulations, using both commercial software and custom tools developed with our partners at Brunel University London. Realistic met-ocean data will model long-term loading and assess failure risks. Experimental validation in towing tanks and flume facilities will verify the computational models. Additionally, the project will leverage and enhance the capabilities of our flagship software, Zencrack
