Objective of my Project Idea

The BioVal project will demonstrate a modular, circular system that transforms municipal food waste and agricultural residues into permanent carbon removal and climate-positive products. Led by Nellie Technologies (UK), the consortium will include a waste owner/operator to supply real feedstocks and host the pilot, and a network partner specialising in verification, industrial adoption, or market offtake.

The innovation integrates three proven processes into a relocatable unit: (1) aerobic digestion to extract nutrient-rich digestate, (2) microalgal photobioreactors to rapidly grow biomass on these nutrients while capturing CO₂, and (3) pyrolysis to convert the biomass into stable biochar with >1,000-year permanence. A valuable biofertiliser co-product is also produced, supporting sustainable agriculture.

All material and energy flows are monitored through Nellie’s digital MRV platform, enabling transparent, third-party verified carbon removal certificates (CORCs) aligned with leading standards such as EBC, Puro, and Isometric. This ensures high-integrity carbon accounting and creates new revenue pathways for waste owners and municipalities, combining CORC sales with sustainable product outputs.

BioVal will:

• Validate the system’s performance on diverse real-world waste streams.
• Demonstrate carbon removal volumes, nutrient recovery, and energy balances.
• Issue verified CORCs, partly allocated to waste partners as revenue-sharing models.
• Deliver replication and scale-up frameworks for deployment across the network.

By valorising underused waste into carbon-negative outputs, BioVal directly advances Eurogia’s goals in clean energy transition, circular economy, and industrial decarbonisation, while delivering tangible local benefits through community engagement, skills training, and sustainable agricultural inputs

Types of partners being sought
Waste Owner / Operator – A municipal authority, agri-business, or waste management company that can provide real waste feedstocks (e.g., municipal food waste, agricultural residues) and host pilot deployment sites . • Verification & MRV Specialist – An independent partner with expertise in measurement, reporting, and verification of carbon removal (aligned with standards such as EBC, Puro, or Isometric), ensuring credibility and certification of CORCs . • Industrial / Market Offtaker – An industry player or distributor that can adopt, purchase, or integrate the project’s outputs (biochar, biofertiliser, CORCs), securing commercial pathways and supporting replication
