IoT&AI Based Multi-Layered Virtual Power Plant Platform for Demand Side Management Microservices
When analyzed from the perspective of the distribution system, the existing grid infrastructure is facing additional loading, imbalances and power quality problems day by day as a result of the increasing power demand and the increase in intermittent renewable energy generation. It is obvious that the root causes of the problems are the widespread use of heating/cooling systems and electric vehicles and the integration of intermitted renewable energy sources.
In order to meet the peak demand in the distribution system, “Demand Side Management” applications have been developed that suggest the coordination of the energy demand side and include a wide range of solutions from multi-time tariff incentives to direct load control. With the transition to electricity in transportation and heating, demand-side management will be an even more important mechanism in the near future. However, the biggest obstacles in these applications are user participation, the sustainability of the application, and its economic and technical feasibility. When successful projects and business models are examined, it is seen that an effective and sustainable Demand Side Management system should;
- provide a good user experience
- to be economically by combining with different service models
- be technically simple and scalable.
The proposed project aims to develop technical infrastructure, a participatory flexibility market, and microservice models that cover energy end-user households and small businesses and enable them to engage in different demand-side participation applications. In the project, it is aimed to integrate the distributed flexible energy assets, which are also troublesome for the distribution system, and to use in a coordinated manner with smart systems and new business/service models. Based on this goal, it is aimed to develop a holistic system that includes ICT solutions, market operations, mobile application, and service layers for monitoring the energy of households

Brief description of my Organisation
REENGEN Energy Technologies is a technology company established in 2013, with end-to-end digital energy intelligence solutions for buildings, facilities and plants. Reengen's Energy AI & IoT Platform enables building and grid operators with real time monitoring, visualization and analytics tools for better managing their assets, reducing operational costs and increasing energy efficiency, providing actionable intelligence and continuous optimization. Already collecting data from thousands of buildings in 5 different countries, the data science centric IoT Platform employs machine learning algorithms and big data analytics in order to provide energy saving, operational efficiency, energy procurement optimization and predictive maintenance for its customers.
Our second solution, Carbon Intelligence Platform help enterpises and facilities to manage their sustainability processes. Our platform simplifies carbon data collection with automated meter data capture and well-designed data entry fields and consolidates them on a single global hub. Our extensive reporting facilities are Comply with ISO 140001, ISO 14064 and GHG Protocol frameworks.
Reengen has expertise with international projects in research, development and innovation action projects, co-funded by European Commission, Eureka Network, TUBITAK, and more, as well as the middle and large-scale commercial projects with international corporates. We are one of the most experienced stakeholders of the cluster with 3 actively continuing Eurogia projects. Our roles in different projects;
• Energy data analysis for energy efficiency
• Residential Demand Side Management Use Case Developer
• Mobile and Web Interface designer for consumer engagement
• Middleware service provider for demo site integrations
